Symptoms include watery stools, stomach cramping, and a loss of fluid and electrolytes. Chronic case: Constant diarrhoea, abdominal pain, hypokalemia, secondary hyperaldosteronism, renal calculi, renal tubular injury, metabolic alkalosis, and muscle weakness.

Drug/Food Interactions

Milk products increase the risk of dyspepsia and stomach discomfort. With concurrent use of diuretics or adrenocorticosteroids, a high dose of bisacodyl may raise the risk of electrolyte imbalance. Increased gastrointestinal side effects when other laxatives are used concurrently. Antacids have a diminished therapeutic impact and an increased risk of dyspepsia and stomach irritation.
